Six people in attendance. One PI chair from Dist. 22. We talk about what PI does and told about what PI is doing in the other districts of Area 32.However, I informed everyone that after our elections there will be a new chair person. Discussed New Grapevine book SOBER & OUT. Handed out 2014 final report to review.
August 3, 2014
  • Eight present representing districts 4,20,2 and 24. We had an unmanned booth with Al-Anon at Tuscola County Fair.
  • Sent literature to Tuscola Recovery & Prevention Coalition. Will also share booth with Al-Anon at Tuscola County Health Fair on Oct. 9, 2014, 9-3 @ M-18 and Colwood Road, Caro. 989) 843-7034.
  • District 20 present for first time to learn about PI. District 2 discussed the role of PI such as spreading the word including distribution or meeting schedules, contact cards, AA material to libraries and schools, fairs, public service announcements on radio and TV.
  • District 4 will have a table at Ypsilanti Heritage Festival on August 15-17.

  • District 12 is distributing big books and 12/12 to libraries. Also working to distribute literature and racks to law enforcement offices, colleges, hospitals and courts.
  • District 12 is developing a checklist system covering responsibilities and guidelines for their Public Information Committee and its future members.
  • District 4 is distributing information to libraries and colleges and is also working on getting public service announcements on radio and TV.
  • Ordered Public Information Workbook for use by committee.

  • District 24 has been distributing AA pamphlets to jail lobbies in Huron and Tuscola Counties.
  • Discussion regarding how to obtain information packet for public information committee persons.
  • Lanawee County, District 2 has new public information chair, Donna H and is working to energize PI function.
  • District 24 will have a table at Tuscola County Fair to share literature and public information. Fair is in July. District 4 has done this successfully in the past.
  • District 24 is also actively working to place public service announcements on radio and TV stations in their area.

Six in attendance, 4 districts. District 12 reported new chair for PI, contact GSO get copies of PSA’s and approach local TV stations to see if they will air. Success in past. Post Big Book and 12&12 purchased for library system – look into. Pamphlets in professional offices. Participate in Health fairs. District 8 reported they don’t have a PI chair. CPC absorbs. PI comes from Ann Arbor/Detroit radio & tv. Participate in community org/service fair. Selective about literature. Network with other orgs. District 6 reports collegiate recovery program with MSU. PI workbook, pamphlet to discuss anonymity.

District 4 to follow-up with high schools to make sure guidance offices have needed literature. District 2 is having trouble with outdated meeting directories at probation department. Pete to talk to contact some more about TV PSA’s.

Reported as follows. Five in attendence. Discussed: Ypsilanti Heritage Festival in District 4 on Aug. 16-18. Tent hosted by HVAI (Huron Valley Area Intergroup) including literature sales and PI booth. Discussed TV stations and PSA’s – making some progress – going to explore a couple of options. Discussed Tuscola County Fair including unmanned AA/Alanon booth, use information cards everywhere (bulletin boards, gas stations, libraries), go through a lot of “Message to Teenagers” and “AA and the Woman” pamphlets. Upcoming health fair in Tuscola in September or October. Ann Arbor Art Fair – look into a non-profit booth next year.

PSA’s Pete to speak with Dan D. – TV announcements. DCM in Standish makes sure groups have newsletters. Briefly discussed PI conference committee actions. District 8 shared new meeting directories.

Today, discussed upcoming dates for Michigan State Conventions in 2013 and 2014. The next PI meeting in District 24 will be at Cass City Lutheran Church on Monday, December 17th at 6 pm, and all are welcome to attend. The pamphlet entitled "Beginnings – CMIA, 1951" was reviewed; emphasis of discussion was on learning about history and elections.

Today the group reviewed AA 2011 Membership survey. The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous has been named by the Library of Congress as one of the "Books that Shaped America." The 30 millionth copy was presented to the AMA in 2010. The committee shared its contact list with the Archives committee.

Also discussed were GSC agenda items regarding Tradition 11 language changes and revisions to the Anonymity wallet card. District 12 sponsored a health fair with AA and Al-Anon participation. Plans continue to cooperate with courts and three major hospitals for more events. There is a new Big Book Study at 1001 Woodside Ave. Essexville on Thursdays at 6 p.m.

There was news to report from Districts 12 and 24 through the four committee members. District 12 received a letter requesting an AA meeting for veterans following the health fair at Huckleberry Railroad. An AA meeting has been set up at Odyssey House in Flint. There is a possibility of starting a meeting resulting from work with the Genesee County Job Corp. also. District 24 members supported a literature booth in cooperation with Al-Anon members at the Tuscola County Fair, July 15 – July 21. There will be AA and Al-Anon manned booths with literature at the health fair at Collwood Church in Caro on M-81 on Thursday, October 11th. This is an event that committee members have attended in previous years.

We had two people in attendance. We discussed what it is that both Area 32 and District P. I. do. Public Information, Treatment, and CPC Chair persons attended a health care fair at Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad in Genesee County, on May 26th.

Seven were in attendance. GSO provided a compilation video of PSA's on DVD to be used as service information for PI Committee members. The committee is now in possession of a list of all PI chairs in the US and Canada. District 24 presented information at Baker College Cass City about: "What AA Is and What AA Is Not" and handed out 200 pieces of literature. District 12 is planning a workshop to educate law enforcement professionals on the intent of AA meetings. The VA is asking interested AA members to attend a workshop at and take literature to the National Guard in Flint, on April 18 from 1pm to 4 pm, as they need support to questions about alcoholism. Four members discussed what Districts 12 and 24 have experienced this year. Letters have been sent, books have been delivered, tables have been served, PSAs have been aired and been monitored and meetings have been held between the professionals of the community and the members of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Information and literature was provided, along with the hotline and helpline numbers, to two people in attendance. Discussion was about information booths at county fairs.

The four members present were from District 12; they discussed how a new chairperson should start or chair a meeting. Also, on March 31st, there was a combined Committee community workshop in Flint with over 100 attendees.
